Hi there,

This has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I think it's finally time to begin. I'm currently working in Belgrade, and I want to start my trip as soon as possible. However, I haven't been able to find decent bikepacking gear here.

I have a Trek X-Caliber 29" mountain bike, and I need to get a front pack, frame pack, and seat pack. I’ll also need a tent for the trip. According to my research, tent prices in Belgrade seem quite high.

Do you have any recommendations for shops where I can find good-quality gear for a 1- to 2-month bikepacking trip?

My maximum budget is $700.

Thanks in advance!

There is the Decathlon store (I see many options for front, frame and seat bags, as well as tents and other camping gear), but it's always a gamble what they actually have in the store(s)... try calling first to check. The other option is 2bike market, lots of stuff for sale with wide variety of prices, quality etc..

Hello alfaldr,

buying gear for cycling, hiking, camping, or pretty much any sport or outdoor activity in Serbia is a chore that always ends with large compromises on the buyer's side. And yes, the prices are usually ridiculous.

Ordering gear online/abroad and having someone bring it to you is the best option, but obviously requires time which you might not have. There are local stores that sell that type of equipment, some of which are mentioned above, and the rest are not hard to find online. However, besides expecting very little from them, I would also advise against ordering online from our stores, primarily because it assumes believing what their websites claim as what is in stock and what isn't. The largest retailers (Decathlon, Intersport if it still exists in Serbia, I am not sure anymore) are kind of ok in this respect, but for everyone else just go to the store and check for yourself (don't call as they usually simply check their own website).

Good luck!
